As less and less people carry cash and increasingly rely on credit cards for their daily spending, parking operators who automate their areas with cashless payment systems will be ready to reap benefits and enhance their customers’ experience.
Peripherals equipped with credit card module are located at each vehicle access point of the parking area in order to guarantee a smooth, optimal access. Drivers get in and out of the car park with only a credit card, that acts both as credential and payment mechanism: instead of requesting an entry ticket, they simply insert the credit card into the ticket unit (for North America) or EMV Chip & PIN terminal, or present it to the related NFC reader.
Entry details are sent to the Management System along with credit card information as an identifier. Credit card numbers are fully encrypted (PCI DSS compliant) and tokenized.
The use the same credit card as at the entry lane identifies the parking transaction. The system checks the validity of the card when it is first presented before the boom gate, and this reduces the risk of it being declined upon exit. The fee is calculated based on the elapsed time (plus a grace time) and charged to the credit card with an automatic receipt printed. The use of this application is subject to country-specific local credit card rules.
Customer confidence in electronic payment systems is increasing, thanks to global standards and smart technologies that have improved the system’s reliability, responsiveness and security. In fact, PCI compliance allows for users to know that their cards are secure at all times, and there will not be anything to fear about the processing system.
The advantage of Credit-In & Credit-Out solution for entry and exit lanes is that the driver is not required to have a ticket, and it eliminates the need to physically go the pay station. Queueing is reduced too! In addition to saving time and hassle (safely store the ticket, find the pay station, pay, keep the ticket for exit) to drivers, this solution makes the parking area more environmentally friendly: there is no need for ticket handling and stock.
Car park operators also benefit from reduced security risks, substantially lowering costs and increasing revenues.
