What if leaving your car behind could make your city work better? That's exactly the idea at the heart of Park & Ride Cluj-Napoca. Located along one of the city's main access routes, just minutes from Avram Iancu International Airport, this facility is far more than just a place to park. It serves as a strategic intermodal gateway, where commuters from surrounding areas can leave their vehicles, pick up a public transport pass, and continue seamlessly into the city centre.
The users’ parking ticket becomes a public transport pass, seamlessly continuing their journey into the city centre without adding to traffic, searching for space, or the stress that urban driving so often brings. It is this intermodal vision, the fluid connection between private vehicle and public transport makes Park & Ride Cluj-Napoca genuinely distinctive, and that HUB Parking Technology was proud to turn into a tangible solution.
Built from the ground up as a new installation, the Park & Ride features a single-level outdoor area with 863 parking spaces, designed to serve daily commuters, occasional visitors, and public transport users alike. To support this mixed and high-turnover usage, the solution is built on LPR technology (License Plate Recognition), ensuring automated and frictionless entry and exit. Payment is equally seamless, from cash to Apple Pay and Google Pay, handled through indoor pay stations with advanced cash recycling technology, while real-time availability information guides drivers from the moment they approach, reducing congestion before it even forms.
The Cluj-Napoca project is a compelling example of how smart parking technology, when aligned with a clear urban vision, can deliver real impact for commuters, for cities, and for the environment.
