Located in Cumbria – just off the M6 motorway in Penrith, in the Northwest of England – and opened in 1972, the Junction 38 Truckstop is a family-owned service area operated by Westmorland. Known for its welcoming atmosphere and reliable services for HGV drivers, the site offers a comprehensive range of amenities tailored to the needs of long-distance haulage operators and their drivers.
In collaboration with National Highways and Westmorland, HUB Parking Technology UK deployed a fully digitalized parking system to provide a more seamless and efficient experience for both drivers and staff.
Unlike conventional car parks, truck stops face unique challenges involving multiple stakeholders: drivers must comply with strict rest regulations, fleet managers require accurate usage records, and parking operators need to balance service quality with operational oversight. Our UK team implemented features like License Plate Recognition (LPR) cameras for ticketless entry and exit, J4M – a web parking validation platform – for discount options, and JMS – HUB’s parking management system – for real-time monitoring, reporting, and operational efficiency.
Thanks to the new parking system, drivers can now access the facility more easily, manage parking subscriptions on the go, and take full advantage of the available services. Meanwhile, operators benefit from improved visibility over stall availability, historical usage, and customer behavior patterns.
