As someone once said, it is impossible to explore the Dordogne Valley without visiting Rocamadour!
The sacred city is vertical and majestic, as it clings from the cliff facing the Alzou stream. On top of being a UNESCO heritage medieval site with an active sanctuary that attracts religious crowds, the city is located on one of the Caminos de Santiago. The consequence is that over 2 million visitors reach Rocamadour every year: on foot, by car, by bicycle and of course by coach.
For them, and for all residents, finding a parking space proved a challenge until the local council turned to HUB Parking Technology France for automating their parking areas, offering the best of service to both transient users and recurring drivers.
The large volume of visitors used to congest the access ways to the upper town, especially in the period April-October. Rocamadour municipality decided to upgrade the lots and converted them into paid parking, so as to invest the revenues in the (high) maintenance of the historical and religious site.
Cars and buses can now park in the 5 equipped areas located at the foot of the rock, all gated with Magnetic barriers and fully compliant with the environmental restrictions posed by the biosphere reserve of Dordogne geopark. All of the parking lots are monitored via JMS management software, and maintenance is provided by FAAC France partner Briv' Securit.
